  1. I'm so frustrated! I've had this problem more than one year. It's impossible to get Norwegian subtitles with ffmpegX. I've tried with a large number of DVD's, but the same problem is always there.

The problem only occurs with a special type of DVDs, with the four nordic languages Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and Finnish. On these DVDs only two languages is possible to get in ffmpegX, even when the four names appear in the subtitles checkbox in ffmpegX. If I choose Norwegian, the result is another of the languages. Only two languages is possible to get, for example two Danish and two Finnish, instead of one of each of the four languages. But Norwegian is always one of the two languages that not work.

With other DVDs, that have more than these four languages, I can get Norwegian subtitles in ffmpegX, but these DVDs with the four languages are among the most usual DVDs here in Norway.

I've tried to rip the DVDs into a VIDEO_TS folder made in MacTheRipper, or into a VOB file, with all subtitles included, in 0SEx. Both give the same result.

The weird thing is that the subtitles ARE there, if I open the ripped VIDEO_TS folder or the VOB file in VLC, I can easily get Norwegian subtitles, but in ffmpegX it's impossible.

Anyone who have had the same experience, and maybe there is someone who knows what's wrong?

  2. I would suggest you to upload a short chapter in VOB format with all the subs, and email me to major4@mac.com a link to download it, so as I can make some tests and reproduce the issue.

  3. I uploaded a VOB file for you about one year ago with exactly the same problem, but you couldn't find a solution. In addition, the Nordic languages are very similar, so a person who don't understand the languages, can't immediately see the differences between them. This was also a problem for you, as I remember. But I'll see tomorrow if I can find a chapter that is small enough to upload again.

And hope like hell he still feels like helping you with your condescending tone.
    Hello.

I'm sorry if my comment seemed condescending, but it wasn't meant that way.

I couldn't find any movie with a short enough chapter to uplad now. Even two or three minutes gives a VOB file larger than 100 MB. I will upload a file when I find a more suitable one.

  6. You can cut it to 5MB with a command like this:

    dd if=inputfile of=outputfile bs=1024k count=5

Sorry, but I'm not a very advanced user. Can you tell me how and where I shall write this command?

  8. In Terminal application. Substitute "inputfile" and "outputfile" by the applicable file paths.

  9. Thank you very much! I managed to make a 5 MB file, and I have now uploaded it. I've sent you a mail with the link.
