Yahoo.
I'm pretty sure it was 1993. And I remember it being kindof a hassle to dial-up. Had to set up alot of stuff, but then again, i was like 6. I don't really remeber.

Probably Google. Either that or Yahoo!. It was such a long time ago.

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend? -
If it was google then it couldn't be THAT long ago.Originally Posted by Conquest10

You think you're old? I remember when TCP/IP only used 2 octets.

Forget that. I'd rather listen to a "grandpa group" than boring "diaper shitters group" any day of the week. Some of these new groups (Linkin Park, etc) make me want to vomit. Good thing I have a nice CD collection.Originally Posted by Doramius
Nope. 1996. Was just a big directory service, a competitor style service to webcrawler and altavista (altavista.digital.com, not altavista.com, not back then). Yahoo was totally useless at the time. Late 1997 is when e-mail arrived. I don't remember if it was free or not at first.Originally Posted by DivXExpert
You can always visit ARCHIVE.ORG to see old sites as they once existed.
Search engines didn't really get good for a while.
I used Mosaic for a while, then Netscape until about 2001 or so. Switched to IE after that.
I'm not old.
I've just grown out of the young and stupid phase. 8)Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I started in 1995...and at the time, I thought I was coming in late to the whole Internet scene.
First 4 months were on AOL...when it connected with the key getting struck by lighning and going into space
So...getting the AOL browser to work was asking for the impossible.
All I'd get were warnings saying there was too much traffic to access the web.
I started out in Usenet (newsgroups) and stayed with that for a few years.
Also accessed FTP sites very early on and soon enough was using IRC.
I don't really remember the first site I visted...I know I was trying to get to a specific site that was referenced in a trade magazine from that time, so I may have attempted to go there first, but never found the site.
I did a lot a web surfing when I first got a real ISP...and also visted a few friends' sites and links from the newsgroups.
I remember being disappointed by what the Internet was at first - I somewhat expected it to be what it's become since...it was primitive to me at the time :P
The amount of info out there was lacking and not really what I was hoping for.
I liked some things about the way it was then (less regulated and not having much concern about firewall protection) but it's gotten much better with time. I miss some things being the way they were though.
I saw many sites in their earliest stages and watched them grow.
Also saw many good sites fold early
I even started my own site early - before knowing much about site building.
I caught on pretty fast...and actually knew more about using the 'net than using a computer itself
I was also lucky to have people helping me out. -
Hey, when Google first started I was barely out of grammar school.Originally Posted by FlaystusHis name was MackemX

Search engine. Yahoo I think.

Hell yes on that. Only exception would be Britney. Tolerate the noise, wrap her up in her diaper and take her home.. Even better, wait 5 years then get her little sister, she looks like she's gonna end up even cuter.Originally Posted by lordsmurf
PersianKitty and Danni's Hard Drive. Now those were the sites back then, probably 80% of internet traffic was through them in the mid 90's..
