  1. I have a home video that is years old. When I originally made it, I captured two DV files, converted them inidividually with VirtualDub and then combined them with Easy MPEG RM Joiner or whatever that program is called. Anyway, I could always watch the whole file after combining. I burnt it on CD and my friend put it on his HD and has had it for all this time. A month or so ago, I transferred all the old videos from his PC to mine again and now at the point where the two files were joined, if I just let Media Player Classic play without seeking, it will play the second part but with audio desync, which doesn't surpise me due to my lack of experience years ago. But, if I seek to a point beyond where the two were joined, regardless of whether the playback has reached the second part or not, the video freezes and goes back to the beginning of the video. I have searched for bad frames in VirtualDub and the last frame it displays is the last frame before the second part. I have used MPEG-Corrector which resulted in the timeline shortening to make its end point that last frame in the first part. I tried TMPGEnc MPEG Tools also but to no avail. Does anyone know what I can do to save that second part? No worries on the audio sync, I can fix that.

It is somehow possible to join 2 mpegs even if 1 or both have damaged header. That may be the case. Your videos could have been joined improperly (at a wrong frame, B or P). Try loading the video into UleadVideoStudio and using "smart render" try to rerender the whole piece (you may try to cut out few frames at the join point). Use the setting "same as project" (will process the video as is without modyfying any setting). Works for me (better then joiners or splitters).

  3. Ok, thanks. I'll try that. Someone should make a third party program that does that part of UVS's job. Hehe.

Try running it through restream as well. May be able to fix your issue (similar to "smart render").

  5. Worked perfectly! Thank you very much. Damn, now I have a reason to keep this overloaded software installed! Good thing I only have a few old videos.

That is the sole reason I keep it (since I got it bundled and free). Smart render is a great feature indeed.

  7. Now all I have to do is resync the audio. The first part of the audio is synced, the second part is off. I am interleaving it with VirtualDub. Any better ideas?
