  1. I have been converting all of my avi and mpg clips to MPEG2 (MPEG-2) with TMPGEnc for burning SVCD's.

unlike avi and mpeg-1 files, windows XP Pro will not allow me to browse the folders containing the mpeg2 files in view>thumbnail mode. is there a way to enable this function for mpeg2 files?

i have installed codec packs that allow me to play the mpeg2 file in windows media player, but i still have no thumbnails while browsing the folders w/ My Computer

if i can't do it w/ windows stand-alone, is there a program that will allow browsing mpeg2 files as thumbnails w/out opening them?

  2. Make sure your MPEG-2 files are named - .mpeg and .mpg otherwise it won't work. If that doesnt work then I don't think anything will. You'll need to find a separate program (of which I don't know any).

  3. This may not help you...

I've had that same problem before. I've had a folder with video files that 'would' thumbnail and for some reason would no longer thumbnail. I've found that if I have a video file in that folder that 'has a problem' then Windows developes thumbnail problems in that folder.

I've cut/paste clips from a folder that wouldn't thumbnail to one that would and found the clip would either thumbnail or keep all the others from thumbnailing that were ok before.

Also, one time I had a folder with archived mpeg2 files I knew would all thumbnail ok, then one day they wouldn't. I was also having a problem with DVD Complete crashing. I reinstalled DVD Complete and it also fixed my thumbnail problem.(?)

Like I said, this may not help you..

  4. I have the same problem, and its a real piss off... i have hundreds of mpeg2 videos... mpeg1 and avi thumbnail perfectly... mpeg2 "USED" to display thumbnail..

so it could be a codec thing... so i guess what i'll do is remove all the video codecs i use.. then reinstall them when necessary

I'd just like to say that Nero Showtime installed with Nero is shit rubbish! and stole all the associations from a real dvd player "windvd". And by that same thing, Windows Xp has a habit of collecting file groups such as all the mpeg vids both ps and es and using same icon for them. I know i can change them but without doubt, within a day or 2 its gone back. aaaaaah

Is there an option in NERO Showtime that turns off automatic reclaiming of file types? This has happened to me with WMA and MP3 files and Winamp. Winamp used to just take over my WMA and MP3 files until I unchecked this option to unassociate the file extensions with that program.
