Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, I couldn't find anything on this using search.
I recently got via trade 4 live concert video dvds. When they arrived, I realized they had been burned/authored using a Standalone unit with no menus and chapter stops every 5 minutes instead of at the beginning of each song.
Does anyone know how to re-author this on my PC so I can add correct chapter stops and menus? I have a ton of programs, but not much experience in this stuff.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Josh

You demux the video_ts file on the source dvd using dvd decryptor in the ifo mode so that you have one long separate audio and video track.
Next step depends on what dvd authoring program you use for the audio track that you need to remux..some dvd authoring programs support mp2 MPEG-1 Audio Layer 2 format audio and pcm (wav) only like tmpg dvd author..most of the time the source dvd audio track is ac3 format so you would need a audio decoder to change the audio format like tmpgenc or something similar to mp2 or else you would have video only and no audio when you author a dvd..
I have reauthored many live non commercial dvd that were recorded from a standalone and added menus and correct chapter points. -
ok, the audio is ac3 256bitrate.
I have so many programs i dont know what to do with all of them. So assuming i demux in dvd decrypter like you said, and the audio is 256 kbs AC3. What next?
Thanks again for the help! -
No... there is a much simpler and easier method. Download TMPGEnc DVD Author (unrestricted 30 day trial). Load the DVD files (they can be VOB or VRO files). Trim and select chapter points. Create a menu (if you want one). Author the new DVD compliant file structure. Burn your new DVD with Nero or any burning application. Note that you won't be able to hear the AC3 audio (unless you purchase their AC3 plug in) during the process, but it will be there in the end and play just fine.
This can all be done with freeware, too. It is a more involved process and has a steeper learning curve, but it can be done. -
I actually have full TMPGEnc DVD Author, not the trial one. Does that make a difference? I have never used it.
and what do you mean by trim? -

one other thing, what about the crappy blue start-up menu the standalone creates? can i remove that from the actual show?

Yes. When you load the VOB files, you will only have the actual MPEG2 video, not the menu from the DVD recorder.
