  1. k, i have posted before with my problems and im getting closer and closer to finding out what is going on. This is my first time exually doing this stuff. I really don't know that may term's or name of parts. I think i might know them, but i might be wrong. Anyhow, i have a CD-Burner and DVD player. I noticed one day my CD- Burner wasnt showing up on the computer. So, i played around with it anyhow i decided it must be broke. So, today i recived a DVD/CD burner in place of this CD-Burner. So i removed the CD burner and replaced it with the DVD burner. However, just like the CD burner it wasnt loading up. So, i decided to switch the two around DVD player and the DVD burner. Now the DVD burner was working and not the dvd player. So, i then also tested my old burner and noticed that two worked. So, i thought maybe the slave IDE port was broke. However, when i put one in there and not in my other one it was also running. They all will run one by one if there's not another one connected? What's going on i don't really unstand the diff between a stnadard IDE ribbon cable and a cable select cable? Also, what's slave master and cable select? my old burner was in cable select.

If you have both set as master. One will noot show up. I would have the dvdburner as master and if you are determined to have a second drive, set it to slave. On cable select, it is self-explanatory.

You really only need the dvdburner. It will read a cd, and a dvd. It can play dvd's. It will burn cd's, and dvd's. It does everything you need in one drive.

Treebeard... I'm the same way... external DVDBurner... used only for that. DVD Rom (for ripping) and CDRW for music, data, etc.
