mpg/avi to mpeg2 probs

ive been trying to convert some old cartoons i have on my pc to make some dvds

i have been having loads of problems when trying to convert them in TmpgEnc, e.g. while converting the files seems to freeze in a certain spot, or during conversion, i see alot of green blocks in the main window, but for some reason it will keep converting the file, and when i try to watch the video, it will stop at that certain point where it froze/green blocks and thats all i will see..

ive used the project wizard, and changed alot of settings in tmpgenc etc, with no luck...ive also used virtualdubmod and mp3 freeze to scan the files and they all come up good, Avis come up with no bad frames/freezes, as well as the mpg ones i have as well

can anyone help me with this?
