  1. Last weekend I completely rebuilt my HTPC to resolve some longstanding performance problems (added a RAID 0 array, upgraded from Win 98SE to Win2k, updated all my drivers, etc).

Now I have a bizarre problem I've never seen before. When I switch channels in MMC 7.1, oftentimes the tuner can't lock on to the new channel. Specifically, upon switching I may (or may not) get a glimpse of the new channel but then the feed just goes black with intermittent bursts of static. The problem seems worse the father apart the channels are - rarely can I jump more than 20 channels correctly but if I then go down one channel and back up, everything is fine (although not always ... esp at high channel numbers).

Has anyone else had, or even heard of this problem? I've double checked all my connections and my hardware and software configurations and everything seems fine. I am having no other problems other than this channel switching bug. This is a totally fresh build with minimal extraneous software installed (I'm shooting for rock-solid stability).

For the extremely thorough, here is my configuration ...

    Hardware:
    Abit KT7A-RAID motherboard w/ 256 MB RAM
    2x30 GB RAID 0 Array (Promise HPT370 ATA100 Controller)
ATI Radeon All-in-Wonder Video Card (Cable TV source, Philips Magnavox 32" TV for Display)
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Sound Card
    Plextor 12/10/32A ATAPI CD-RW Drive
    Pioneer DVD-116 Drive
U.S. Robotics 56k Performance Pro Modem
    D-Link 10/100 Fast Ethernet Card

    Software:
    Windows 2000 Service Pack 2
DirectX 8.1 with Windows Media Player 7.1
    ATI MMC 7.1 & DVD 4.1.0.0 (Driver 5.13.01.3276)
    Internet Explorer 6

  2. I had the same problem with Win XP machine that I just got. Fixed it by removing an Nvidia display driver that's left on the machine by HP.

Were you able to get the card to display simultaniously to both your TV and monitor? I can only get one of them to work.

    Thanks.

  3. I still have that problem on my XP machine. I'm using MMC 7.5 and the drivers off the 8500DV CD. (On my straight stick Radeon AIW)

  4. I finally figured it out. It's the display driver. When I revert back to the display driver that came with Win XP, I can receive all channels and the the card locks very quickly when I switch channels.

Try it and see if you get the same result. For a while I thought the tunner circuitry was bad...
