  1. I am attempting to burn a DVD onto a Maxell 4X DVD-R.

Nero will not go past the 'Checking Disc' stage. Yet, on a CD-R, CD-RW and DVD-RW, it will burn no problem

Could the the 4X -R discs be bad?

  2. What burner model and firmware? Any other brand of DVD-R successfully burned? How about DVD+Rs? Latest version of Nero? I've burned 500+ with ver6.0.0.28

  5. tried rebooting, and that doesn't solve anything, I'm back to square 1. If I put a blank DVD in (maxell 4x), Windows detects it as blank. But if I try to burn/identify the DVD, my computer needs a restart.

    Very frustrating. They worked before

  6. So Restore your computer to a time they worked.

    Or

Probably 90% of the time all you need to do is uninstall it in control panel, system, restart the computer to redetect it & youre all set.

  8. Fixed it

It wasn't Nero, ASPI, or anything.

I have 2 CD drives, one is an Asus 52X reader and the other is the DVD burner

I simply switched the IDE cables around. And it worked.

I didn't think it would be THAT easy, but that's computers for ya, its always the least expected thing that ends up working
