I have an:
Athlon 1.2Ghz system
256 Mb Ram
I want to convert some old VHS videos to CD/DVD. We plan to buy a video camera (possibly digital) in the next few months.
What video capture card would be ideal for my needs and also not blow my budget?? I was looking at the ATI All in Wonder or Marvel G450-TV.
Thanks for your help!

well, i don't have a matrox, but i do have an AGP AiW 128 Pro. it's a real nice card once you get it working, but due to lousy directshow drivers it's a bit limited in win2k, though it works well in 98/ME. however, it has macrovision built in, and there isn't a successful patch to remove it. so it won't help you convert copy protected VHS unless you buy an external signal clarifier box for about $50.

Since you are still to get a capture hw and camcorder, suggest you go Sony (either D8 or miniDV) with Analog Pass-through capability, and a cheap firewire card. That way, you can transfer your VHS straight to your HD thru the camcorder (you don't need to make a camcorder copy).
Just make sure that the feature is available in the camcorder you'll buy.
