Hello,
I have a Convertx 401U. Does anyone know the resolution and bitrates that this thing records for the various templates ? I cannot find a clear document on the Plextor site.
Thanks !

Perhaps is the same as the M402U.
Here is M402U table (NTSC):
DVD High Quality 720x480 @ 6 VBR
DVD Good Quality 720x480 @ 4.5 VBR
DVD Standard Quality 352x480 @ 3 VBR
DVD Long Play 720x480 @ 2 VBR
Or in Creator right click on the file capped at each profile and select properties. -
Seems like the 401 does CBR, I hate that, I wonder if it could be switched to do VBR.

I see. Double check it again with other software perhaps it is vbr.Originally Posted by draganong
According to Plextor tech support (read from divx forum) the creator2 writes the profile in XML files.
C:\Program Files\InterVideo\WCreator2\Profiles
He also said with a notepad those profile files can be edited to change video bitrate, quality, sound,..etc. I did test it with M402 and it works. You have M401 thus it may not with you. Please use this information at your own risk (even for M402 owners). -
Awesome. I will give a shot at editing the profiles, I would like to use half D1 res, but a higher bitrate.

Half D1 at a CBR video bitrate of 5000kbps is just about perfect looking.Originally Posted by draganong
I use that alot with my captures but I capture AVI format then convert to MPEG-2 using CCE
In short I don't have a ConvertX

I wonder how I can force the unit in the templates to go into VBR mode instead of CBR. Tech support claims it is automatic for best quality, but I would like to know how to force it to o VBR...
Which tool would tell me if ithe clip is VBR or CBR ? I have had various tools report both, but by the size these clips look CBR to me...
Thanks. -
The tech support is right. It is automatic and your clips are already in VBR.Originally Posted by draganong
Buy or download an evaluation version of UVS7/8 load and check the properties of the clips. -
By the file size they do not seem VBR... 2 GB for a half D1 at 4000 kbps for 90 min ??? MY apex DVD recorder does 1.6 GB for 90 min at 9000 kbps VBR...
The template I use is below. Is there a document that explains what each flag is ?
