  1. probably a noob question, my apologies. i use convertx both versions 3 and 4. occasionally, i get an avi with excellent vid quality but the sound needs some help, like some equalization. i would like to use the EQ in ffdshow, if possible but dont have a clue as to how to tell convertx to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Convertx uses internal decoders rather than ffdshow for audio and video conversion. In other words, in order to do what you want you'll have to demux the audio, equalize it using an app like Audacity, then remux it with the video track. Not difficult, just a PITA.

check the audio options menu in convertx4. you can set the level as high as you want.

  4. Thanks for the quick response. PITA i can deal with... i use windows so im used to that =). I assume i can use something like AviDemux to deconstruct but what do you suggest for putting it all back together?

Edit: can i just add the vid and reEQd audio streams directly into convertx?

Dunno, will Convertx let you feed separate audio and video tracks? If not, AVI-MUX Gui is good. You might as well keep the audio in .WAV format as ConvertX will reconvert to AC3.
