If your system has multiple processors, activate the option to Use multi-thread, otherwise TMPGEnc will only use the first CPU (if you only have one CPU, enabling multi-threading will usually make things slower, unless your system supports hyperthreading).
i have a pentium 4, 2.0 gig processor computer...if i check the multi-threading in TMPEnc will it make my encoding faster?

Get a copy of cpu-z from here.

    http://www.softpedia.com/public/scripts/downloadhero/13-5-23/

    Run cpu-z.

Under the code name - either Northwood or Prescot.
Under processor selection - CPU #1 and CPU #2.

This will confirm that you have HT.

Another way to tell is your P4 CPU model must a "C" on it. E.g. P4 3.0C.

tnx man ill try to do that...

but will it make my encoding faster if i check the multi-threading?

  4. If I remember correctly on another post here it stated that tmpgenc does not have ability to use dual processors which is what HT does. If you look under system details in control panel it may show as 2 processors.

    i dowloaded cpu-z
when i run the program, Under the code name - it is Northwood
but under processor selection - CPU #1 is grayed out

does this mean that my Pentium 4 2gig is not capable of multi-threading?

tmpgenc uses dual proccessors great! in fact it makes a whole new encoder..

works great with HT also ..

you may have to enable HT in your bios

Yes. Not enabling SMP in any software that is capable of taking advantage of it could be considered a waste. If you leave TMPEnc using one CPU (on a HT machine) you would effectively be using only 50% of its processing power. (2 processors = 2x50%.) So enabling multi-threading will give a definite boost in performance to the degradation of the overall system performance.

Systems with multiple CPUs need this setting enabled if one desires to use all of the available processors. One may not always want TMPGEnc to use multiple processors though.
In the end, it's up to the user to decide, based on circumstance and what your needs are. If you are comfortable leaving your machine running while you are away from it, then enable multi-threading. If you want to use it while encoding, then allowing only one CPU to encode (either HT or a real physical CPU) will give a boost to other tasks you want to perform.

  9. Sorry d_unbeliever but hyperthreading is only available on newer P4s with the 800MHz bus. 2.6GHz models and above, I believe.
I have nothing profound to say, so I'll just mention some things I really like (in no particular order): Tivos, Audis, Isuzu Troopers, Canon camcorders, Macs.

I have a 2.4GHz 800FSB with HT and for further reference...
