  1. I ripped Kill Bill Vol.1 with Mac The Ripper. It was 7.1GB. So I used DVD2ONEX to compress it down with the settings: Output: DVD+/- RW at 4472MB with only English audio and subtitles. The compressed folder was down to 4.05GB. Then I used Toast 6.0 Titanium and put the new compressed Kill Bill folder in the data section. I popped in an Imation DVD-R and pressed to red "burn" button. It started to burn and I left, only to come back later with it being only around 25% done and with this message:
    The drive reported an error:
    Sense Key = ILLEGAL REQUEST
    Sense Code = 0x30, 0x05
CANNOT WRITE MEDIUM - INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you used this media of dvd before?
it sounds like its not compatible with your drive
either that or it was a bad disk in the batch you have. Probably that. If you have another I would say try it again.
if it happens consistantly with this media it is probably not compatible with your drive

  3. I will try another DVDr and see if it will work. But if it doesn't, what type of DVDr's do you recommend? I have a 15" PowerBook G4 purchased in March. The DVD drive is a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-816

Are you sure you're not using DVD+R discs? Those are incompatible with your drive; you need DVD-R media.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

  5. No, they are Imation DVD-R. The 2nd try worked though Galactica. But I really don't like wasting away dvd's that don't work every fifth or so try. What DVD-R's do you recommend?

I've had great luck with Ritek, and they're reasonably-priced online, going for about 81¢ a pop in 100-packs shipped in the US.

Ritek's are good. As are TDK's [my choice]

it sounds like it was just a bad disk in the batch
