  1. i got hold of a svcd and converted it to a vcd with the header trick using tmpgenc. but for some reason in my dvd player the video and audio is very jerky. also what software do i need to play this svcd on my computer. ive tried powerdvd but no luck.

    anyone got a suggestion?

    I have done it the other way round (VCD header on an SVCD) but never heard of this. Are you sure this is what you are doing? If so why do this?

    Now that makes more sense

    The reason for doing VCD header on an SVCD is because your DVD player does not support SVCD. As to why your DVD player does not 'officially' support SVCD, it could simply be that the manufacturer did not wish to pay the extra license fee for use of the SVCD logo, or it could be the the CDROM reading capabilities of the machine are not up to SVCD requirements. In your case I suspect it is the latter, though it appears to be borderline. In this case you are pretty much out of luck. Either re-encode to a lower bitrate or VCD standard, or buy a new DVD player that does support SVCD.
