  1. I am encoding files with TMPGEnc, they are non-standard MPEG-1 and whatever I do the file size never matches what the wizard tells me. For example a recent file I encoded told me the resulting file size would be 80mb and yet the final file was 120mb - this makes it very difficult to code to the right size to fit a certains number of videos on a CD-R. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  3. OK this is really strange, even if I lower the bit rate substantially - eg. from 700kbps to 300kbps the resulting does not change at all - it is always the same size!! What is going on here?

I agree 50% bigger is a pain but you'rw orking with very small files sizes here, you nee ot give TMPGEnc a chance!
There's a bitrate calculator in the tolls section to your left, you might have more luck with it.
Oh, and a friendly peice of advice, two posts within an hour of your initial post won't win you many friends, it contravenes the AUP and pisses people off.

You must change the stream type to MPEG-1 VCD(non video standard), under settings->system(in wizard under step 3 under other settings->system). If the stream type is MPEG-1 VCD it will be the same size even if you change the bitrate.
