I just got a Plextor 708a DVD+-R.
I bought some Imation DVD-R's
The burns failed and then I read this on the Imation package:
------
Attention: Free firmware download required to prevent damage to your 2x drive. See details inside
inside it says:
important: media is not compatible with 2x drive without firmware download. Go to http://www.imation.com/dvdfirmware for free download of firmware.
-------
I went to that site and my drive was not listed as needing the firmware - i'm just afraid i may have somehow damaged my new drive

The drive that I believe that they are refering to were the Pioneer drives like the DVR-A03 and DVR-A04. They needed a firmware upgrade to burn media certified above 2X (but 2X media was fine).
