Not sure if this should go in this section, as it's not quite standalone, though it can operate independent of the PC, so maybe...
Anyway, have one of these (500 gb model) and am finding that sometimes the PC doesn't recognise it. Last night I had to switch both drive and PC off three times before it would come up as recognised. At one point, it did see it as the "I" drive, but showed no files and wouldn't let me transfer to it.
Anyone any experience with one of these beasties?
Thx for any input as usual!

I have no specific experience with this drive but if it is USB connected it may experience any of the similar problems which occur with USB drives in general.

Sometimes the systyem will not recognize a drive which was previously removed when reconnected to the same port when not rebooted.

Sometimes the system will not recognize a drive when connected to a different port from that which it was previously connected to. Even if a reboot has occurred.

Some drives have proprietary software which create what appears to be 2 disks, on which has hidden files with their proprietary software, the other the user data. When their software is screwed up, a frequent occurance for some manufacturers, your data never becomes visible. My solution to this problem is to wipe the disk and operate as a plain vanilla volume - but if your drive operates standalone it may need such software.

    Thx Old.
I think the won't-work-after-being-disconnected thing is the one, although as I said I did have to reboot both devices at least twice before it would be eventually recognised.
The Iomega has no drivers, doesn't use any special software, so that wouldn't apply.
I'll try it again tonight and see how it goes.
    Thanks for the reply anyway.

I think I sussed that. RTFM indeed! Seems you're not supposed to just disconnect the player by removing the USB cable, you have to go through the Windows "Safely remove hardware" option! D'oh!

Just wondering if anyone happens to know if it's possible to connect up the AUDIO jacks to my amp as shown in the schematics here, when I'm using the SCART for video? Do I have to use composite video jack if I'm using SCART, or are the SCART and audio jacks then mutually exclusive? I don't want to risk damaging my new drive...!
