VOB to MPG, quality in doing so?

Can you export VOB's to a MPG file(s) without losing any quality?

If I set MPG encode to max bit rate? some 9000+ bps rate, would I lose anything?

or should I demux the VOB's and edit, then recombine the files to (vob's)?

ALso is there a tool that will scan your video and give you the PEAK bit rate of the video as well as the average or nominal bit rate for a DVD/Video, etc?

Probably not. I say probably not because it is unlikely and DVD will be encoded at over 9000kbps. The problem you will get is you will have one massive MPEG file which may not be the best to handle unless you have bucketloads of RAM.

This is the way I would do it. You will not have any loss whatsoever.

Question on tools to DEMUX: What tool would be most helpful for DEMUX'ing audio & video streams (VOB's) LOCATED on a hard drive?

I have DVDDecrypter from DVD drive, but no idea for a good tool to do as much from HARD drive directly.

Is there a way to just dump the VOB to an AVI (or some other file format) which would just memic the bit rate of the orginal VOB? (would this quality be the same as the VOB with the same bit rate, file size, more or less?)

I suppose if I had a good DEMUX'er I wouldn't be asking about the AVI.
