  1. Hi, brand new to this.
I had a movie on my hard drive in mpeg2 format recorded from ProgDvb at a length of under 2 hours.
I am using TMPGenc for conversion prior to burning and it is indicating a time span of 8 hours to complete the task, is this usual?

  2. Yes very usual.

It depends on a lot of factors (search motion precision being probably the most decisive) but 7 hrs encoding a 2 hrs movie is OK.

Yep, TMPGEnc is good but very very slow.

  4. Try MainConcept it's cool. Though it's a little more stingy than TMPGEnc on the settings ytou can sort of hack it a little...The interface is also a little bit different.

It's a bit long, you probably have a lot of filters going, or just have it poorly set up. See the guides on my site.

  6. I have a Pentium III 800MHZ and I was also finding TMPGEnc very slow. I decided to try out Main Concept and CCE and I also decided to change my TMPGEnc settings according to Lord Smurfs recommendation. After testing all 3 programs I found that TMPGEnc was the fastest, I tested a 2 minute Divx file and converted it into a Pal Vcd. It only took 3min 10 sec the slowest was Main concept taking 10 minutes. Anyway before I changed my TMPGEnc settings it was taking me 6-20 hours to convert a 90 minute movie. I must also add that whilst converting movies I'm also running Emule which uses up a lot of system resources. Yesterday I converted a 90 minute movie whilst running Emule and it only took 3 and a half hours. The only negative thing I can say about it is is that it seems to use all my system resources and therefore I cannot use the computer so it's best to encode whilst you're out or asleep. Thanks a lot Lord Smurf, great advise!
