I recently purchased a Lite-On 815S DVD-Writer. While waiting on the DVD-R's that I'd ordered arriving, I borrowed some Bulkpaq Orange's (Princo Dye). Some of these failed to burn in Nero (Session Fixation Errors) and some worked, the ones that worked in Nero played fine in my Sanyo DVD player (TS570).
I got my own media, Infiniti 4 x DVD-R (OptoDisc dye) and these burned fine, everytime in Nero. But not a single one would play in my Sanyo DVD player. My mate tried them in his and they wouldn't work but they worked in his ultra-cheapo DVD playerHe used one of my Infiniti's and burned a movie onto it using his DVD-Writer and it played fine on my DVD player
I've tried umpteen different things over the past couple of days, including, burning 3 different movies, using Nero 5.5.10.42 and Nero 6.3.0.3, used Stomp RecordNow, re-authored vob files using DVDShrink, etc.
Basically, I'm wondering if all of this indicates a problem with the media, the DVD writer or my Sanyo?
I tested a burned disc using DVDInfo Pro and it came back with about 20 read errors after only 2%, is this normal?
I know the Sanyo is capable of playing DVD-Rs as it has done so, it even accepted the Infiniti media when burned on somebody else's writer![]()
I've ordered some Ritek G04 "Frosted Silver" and I'm a bit paranoid about burning anything as I've already wasted 11 DVD-R's in the past couple of days.

I know you said some of the Bulkpaq worked but I would recommend updating the firmware. I got a Liteon 811s at Christmas and my DVD player that plays all formats would not recognise any discs until I had done the update.
Did you get a DVD+RW with the drive ? I'd recommend updating the firmware and trying a burn with that as it seems to be one of the most compatible discs I've used ( think it's a Rioch).
This is all from a newbie as well but good luck

Thanks for the reply dave.
Forgot to mention that I upgraded the firmware to the latest version. I only got a DVD-R and a DVD+R disc with the drive. I don't have the DVD-R to check but as it was a deep purple dye I'm assuming it was probably a Ritek dye. The Infiniti discs burned fine, they just didn't read in my Sanyo. -
Why do so many novices have trouble with Nero? Is it just a matter of it being so widely-used, or is it easier for the inexperienced to mess up? Lots of knowledgeable and skilled folks use it, no problem, so far be it from me to criticize.
Mparter, why don't you try another burning method as a test? You'll need to download DVDDecrypter and IMGTools Classic (both free). Please try the following:
1) Defrag your hard drive(s). Reboot.
2) Shut down any progs running in the background, such as firewall, antivirus, etc.
3) Open DVDShrink, open movie, shrink as usual. Backup.
4) Open IMGTools Classic, select the folder in which reside the shrunken files (VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS), click create image. Wait 'til done.
5) Open DVDDecrypter, select ISO mode-write, select the ISO image you just made, click on DVD icon. Wait 'til it notifies you it's done.
If that doesn't work, your problem isn't the burning process. And if you DO try this, please report back how things went. Too many people won't extend that courtesy to those trying to help them. A question: Have you read any of the guides over <-- there? Good luck.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
Waiting on different media arriving. When they do, I'll try the usual Nero method, if that fails I'll try your suggestion. I've no problem using Nero, it's fairly straightforward to burn DVD's with. I suppose I was getting a bit desperate and trying loads of different methods.

Well, I'm happy to report back that it was in fact the media. I got a spindle of Ritek "Silver Top" DVD-R's and they work fine, no problems at all using Nero 6.3.0.3
Thanks for the help and advice.
