  1. Question: With all the new rage being DVD burners for your
PC..can you in fact rip a DVD at very high quality and then
burn it on a DVD+RW and play it back in a "regular" DVD player? I say +RW, because from my reading they are compatible with more players. I'm aware that it is cost prohibitive at this point.

  2. Well yes & no...if your source dvd is bigger than 4.7 GB, then you can not do a full backup...you will either have to leave out some of the extras, or re-encode the movie video to a lower bitrate....less than 4.7 GB, yes you can do a complete backup...

now my question, what does this have to do with the topic of burning VCD on them??...you can not author a DVD-R or DVD+Rw in VCD format..only in DVD format.

  3. Actually, DVD specifications allow for MPEG1 and the VCD resolution...so in a technical sense you can put VCD video on a DVD.

yes you can put vcd mpeg1 files on a dvd but as DVD only allows 48 khz audio you might have to convert only the vcd audio to 48 khz(kinda easy with tmpgenc, toolame) as most dvd authoring/burning apps requires it.

I have succefully made such dvds with some captured star trek episodes using spruceup and sonic dvdit pe. And you will fit about 435 minutes mpeg1 vcd on one dvd.
