I'm getting a bit frustrated with my attempts to convert some old PAL VHS to DVD, and I wonder if someone can help. Here's what happens on various players after I've authored and burnt:

. Playback works fine on my XBox, except I cannot FFWD faster than 2x, and Chapter skip doesn't work properly - the video will "freeze" on the frame I select the command, but the audio continues from where it is supposed to (eg, at the next chapter)
. On my Rotel 985 DVD player, all the functions work (FFWD, Chapter skip etc), but the playback (video and audio) is jerky.
. On my PC (HP DVD Writer 300n), WinDVD will play the menu, but will not actually play any selected clip.

Here's the procedure and tools I've been using:

. Capture using VirtualDub (via DVRaptor card)
. Edit/trim AVIs in Premiere (v5.x)
. Export audio as .wav
. Frameserve video to TMPGenc
. Generate MPEG2 (360x576 - it's VHS source!)
. Convert audio .wav to .ac3 using ffmpeg
. Mux video and audio using mplex

Repeat until I have about 2hrs worth of material

. Create menu using GIMP/jpeg2yuv/toolame/ffmpeg/mplex/spumux
. Author DVD using dvdauthor
. Generate ISO image using ImgTool
. Burn to TDK DVD+R using DVD Decrypter

Any suggestions? I haven't had a chance to test the DVD on another DVD player (I understand the Rotel is a bit "sensitive" to the quality of the DVDs you play).

Cheers, Foggy
