As if it wasn't bad enough that Ritek stopped producing their 1x/2x G03 media, now I fear that the matted surface is going away as well. At www.supermediastore.com if you click on the link for the 4x matted surface media, it brings you to a new page where the media has a shiny surface. Could it be then that the stores who still are advertising matted surface are simply selling what remaining stock they have left and Ritek has switched to a shiny surface? Does anybody have any information regarding this, I'd very much like to know as I greatly prefer the matted surface due to the fact that it doesn't smear or keep fingerprints. Thanks in advance.

  2. AMPEX: supermediastore.com is known for doing that, the SHINNY surfaces are the OLD dvd-r, what you are getting (matted ones) those are the new ones, check out my post I made a couple of days ago youll like what youll see!!

Now Meritline's Ritek 4x discs are the shiny surface too. I don't have a good feeling about this.

  8. The TDK printer prints perfectly to silver topped media, but has a hard time trying to print onto so called "printable" white tops! I have both matte finish and shiny finish silver tops, but the shiny finish ones look much better when printed. I'm actually looking out for shiny topped Ritek G04's but can't find any anymore.

Just because Newegg is selling matted surface discs now does not mean that Ritek hasn't stopped making them. As I said in the initial post, they could be selling off remaining inventory. 2 online companies have switched to the shiny surface which led me to believe that Ritek might have stopped making the matted surface. My question wasn't "Where can I buy matted surface?" but rather "Have they stopped making matted surface?". I was just trying to find out if anybody had any real information on this topic.

  13. I just called supermediastore.com and their sales rep told me that the matte silver discs were out of stock last week due to chinese new year (people in taiwan factory are on vocation) and now the matte silver discs are available. I like to order from supermediastore.com since I know what I am going to receive: shiny or matte silver. Some other stores just simply say Ritek 4X dvd-r. You never know which Ritek 4x dvd-r you gonna receive: Shiny or Matte?

I been ordering Ritek G0-4 DVD-R's from Meritline and I usally have been pretty lucky getting Matted Silver but the last batch of 100 I got were Shiny ones. Then someone on the forum said to go to Supermediastore.com and you can choose (Matted or Shiney) I ordered them last Monday Feb 9 and they were supposed to come this Monday Feb 16 but low and behold they came today Ritek Ridata G04 DVD-R Media with Matted Silver Surface just like I ordered. I did have problem with the GO-4 Silver Shiney DVD's in my Sony 500a but since I upgraded to my Plextor 708a (I highly recommend this burner) I never had a problem with any media (TDK DVD-R +R, Memorex DVD-R 4x, Ritek GO4 Shiney or Matted) I have bought.

I also was a little shocked by the shinny 04's media but I found if you turn down the darkness setting and use CD/DVD media choice they print very nice on my Epson 900.
On the matte finish I had to use max darkness and photo glossy setting to get them dark enough. This shinny surface may actually be better because you use a lot less ink, although the drying time is longer.
