another problem

i burnt a movie onto my dvd-rw disc and the movie burnt fine so i copied it using dvd shrink but decided i wanted chapters every 15 minutes in it.i then proceeded to burn it onto dvd-r and when i played it back it wouldnt work.why is this???is it something to do with the chpaters i put in???it would play up to chapter 6 and then start skipping.the film was 2hrs and 26minutes.

That sounds like it is most likley poor media. Try a different make/brand.

so is there any point in me even attempting to burn any movies onto these discs???ive still got 7 of the damn things left.

Burn your desired chapter version to a rw disk to verify that the compilation is good.
Then, it's dealer's choice - you can either risk a copy burn to one of your suspect r's. or keep them for shorter/simpler projects later whilst getting a few "better" r disks on hand...

any recommendations for a decent batch of dvd-r???and how much will they cost?i paid £17 for the packard bell dvd-r's.

Does it not play back on ur standalone or ur pc or both? could be that ur standalone dont like -r discs.

That has been my experience also with problemmatic discs. Did a few complex (for me) conversion/authoring projects that just wouldn't go on some CMCs, but worked fine with Riteks. But was able to get some service out of the remaining CMCs doing straight DVD backups, keeping the size below 4 Gigs.
