Ok im new to the world of capturing, i bought a new tv card, pinnacle pctv rave.
Now i have a couple of problems i wonder if anyone can help? i use a jvc ariel lead to go from the back of my vcr to my tv card but im getting alot of interfferance, i use the software provided and when i press record the interference lessens but is still there a little.

Now the card has an ariel port a sound out port and 1 yellow composite port, will buying a composite lead fix anything? and if so what one to buy? there is a yellow video and a white audio port on my vcr so can i plug those 2 into my 1 yellow composite port on my tv card?

everyother program i use cannot recognise the card ive installed and uninstalled it so many times, im looking forward to converting my vhs tapes i dont want to put my tv card in the bin pleae someone must have a clue?????

Well I don't think the video input (YELLOW) should have any audio going in to it, Yellow to yellow me thinks, the audio must go elsewhere.

no seriously theres nowhere for the audio to go this is the order of sockets in my tv card

    1 s-vid
    2 ariel
3 Audio (output to go into my sound card from the tv card)
    3 composite (yellow)

how about if i get a scart to s-vid cable??? will that cut out interference?

  6. My interference problems were solved when I prevented the video cable from touching any power cables. Now, for the audio cable, maybe you have to plug it directly to the line in of your sound card (where the audio out is probably connected).

    Similar cableing for leadtek tv2000
If using composite cables the vid is the yellow in and the audio goes straight to line in of sound card

If using antena/cable you use sound out from cap card to line in of sound card

Don't expect to much quality or good sync with this kind of setup. If you are within a return period, I would suggest that and purchase device that hardware encodes BOTH audio & video inside the box, not via sound card

http://www.adstech.com is my preferance but Pinacalle usb movie box is another which I think uses same setup as ads

I have the PCTV PCI card. I use the composite video out of my vcr or satellite receiver to the composite in on the PCTV card. I then take the RCA out and convert it to a stereo mini connecter and plug that to the LINE-IN of my sound card.

    Done.

    Same scenerio with S-Video.

When using the tuner feature of the card, I plug the sound out connector from the PCTV into the LINE-IN of the soundcard.

I've used a PCTV Rave as well - have been able to do good captures by using Composite video or SVHS input from VCR and taking the stereo audio output from VCR to the sound card. Forget about the internal tuner and the audio out from the PCTV card when source is VCR. I personally wouldn't use the PCTV vision software supplied with the card either. I don't know why you couldn't get other software working but make sure you're using the latest WDM drivers (check out the Pinnacle website). I have been able to use a variety of other programs including virtualdub and intervideo windvr (gave fine quality capture straight to mpeg2).

It might be helpful if you could give more description of the 'interference you're getting'. Could you provide any screen captures?
