I don't really understand the difference between divx and avi could that have something to do with the following:

With a divx player are you supposed to be able to play divx movies without even encoding or converting them. I've tried with my new one I bought today and I am getting no where the only ones that will play are the mpeg encoded ones. The reason why I got it in the first place was to forget about the virtualdub and tmpgenc. Any ideas? Plse get back to me if you know something. Ta in advance. You've been great up to now grovel grovel :P :P

avi is just a container for several video formats like dv, divx, mjpeg, xvid etc. Your player does probably only support divx4+ and maybe xvid. You can check with gspot what kind of avi video it is.

And check our dvd player list for more info about your player.

Thanks for clearing up the doubt I had surrounding the avi. However it's a DIVX file, if I burn it to disc shouldn't I be able to play it in its original format? This I can't do and it supports xvid dvd everything it's a multiplayer apparently
