I have an .mpg file which plays the video but no sound on my Philips DVP-3140/37 DivX player.

I tried to convert it to mp3 but it doesn't work either.

Does anyone know how can I fix this to play sound correctly?

    TIA

  2. Does it play the sound on any software players (e.g. VLC Player) on your PC?

I guess the audio works on your computer...

How did you convert to mp3? Did you convert to avi with mp3 audio? or just mpg with mp3 audio? I would probably just try make an avi divx/xvid with mp3 audio using AutoGK.

I converted to MP3 and it doesn't work as the sound is 'garbled.'

I did not convert to avi with mp3 audio -- just mpg with mp3 audio.

When I load the mpg file in AutoGK it says no video stream found.

  6. This may seem like a silly question, but have you checked you audio output connections from your DVD player to your TV/Surround sound system are connected, they may have disconnected or come loose through movement, it happens.

Another thing to try, why don't you demux (separate) the audio, & try to play the audio file on it's own on your DVD player, this may isolate the problem to just the audio file.

They're connected and the sound in other avi files work fine.

I tested the same kind of audio file in another avi and it plays fine.

    a) I don't believe MP3 is supported in the mpg container.

    b) Not all players play mpg files. I have one that plays VOBs, AVI files and DVDs, but does not play mpg files. Do other mpg files play in this player ?

  9. So what you are saying is, that the AC3 audio file in the mpeg video file does not play sound on your DVD player, but when you play the AC3 audio file in an AVI video file, it plays the sound.

My next question is, why can't you leave it as AVI if it works on your DVD player?

    a) vobs with mp3 work, so why wouldn't an mpeg file with mp3 work? I am not saying you are wrong, but I'm curious, can someone confirm this, I hardly ever do any mpeg encoding these days.

    b) I pretty much assumed that his DVD player plays raw mpeg files since my one does.

This one plays the mpg file, but there is no sound coming out, MP3 or AC3 even though the video plays fine.

I will try to rename the mpg to vob and see if that will work, although if the sound didn't come out properly before in a mpg container I would think the sound wouldnt' come out properly either in a vob container.

Between the mpg and avi files, they are different video and audio content but the same audio format, AC3 or MP3.

Basically, no sounds comes out of the mpg file and I do not have an AVI format of the same video content.

I would be content to re-encode the mpg file into an XviD at the highest possible setting to retain optimal quality but AutoGK says "No video stream found" when I load the mpg file.

Renaming the file to VOB is not the same as putting it in a VOB container, so don't be surprised if it doesn't work.

Again I ask, does this player play other mpg files of similar structure - i.e. mpeg-2 video with AC3 audio ?

  15. So, face it: your DVD player doesn't play the audio in MPG files with AC3 or MP3 audio. Did you try MP2 audio?

I tried VOB but it didn't read it.

I tried MP2 audio and it worked.

    Thanks!
