I recently purchased a Sony DvD writer, model #drx-510ul. While the drive works well for creating VCDs and SVCDs, I've had nothing but headaches creating DVDs.
I've been trying to backup my library of DVD movies using the Sony DVD Writer; DVD X Copy Platinum as the Ripping/Copying Software, and Verbatim Datalife DVD+Rs.
Yet only the Sony DVD Writer can read the backups afterward. Neither my AKAI DVD player, Model DVD200BL, nor the internal drive to my laptop-- which is DVD readable and can play the original DVD-- can read or play the copies.
Is there something I'm doing wrong or some elementary piece of information I'm overlooking?

Thanks I figured out the problem. Unfortunately neither the internal Toshiba DVD-ROM/CDRW drive on my laptop nor my Akai DVD Player seem to recognize the DVD+R media format. I should have checked before jumping to conclusions and posting my message.
I repeated the identical procedures with DVD-Rs media and was able to play them in both my DVD player and on my laptop's internal DVD-ROM.
Quite frankly, I'm surprised. I had thought that DVD+R was the more universal of the two formats. Either my two players are aberrations or the opposite is true. Anyway, thanks. -
The opposite is true. DVD-R is the more compatable format.
Consumer DVD players have only recently begun supporting DVD+R format.
