Is it possible to buy a computer dvd player that is specially designed to play dvd movies at optimum quality? or are all computer dvd players equal for both tasks?

Some DVD player software will automatically increase the contrast, saturation, and sharpness, and decrease noise, when playing DVDs. Whether that is "optimum quality" is a matter of debate. I prefer to see the video as it's intended to be viewed, not with punched up contrast and colors, oversharpening halos, and everthing looking like plastic because all the grain was removed.
