  1. when I tried to author some home VHS using TMPG DVD Author I was told my GOP was too large, however when I authored using Ulead DVD Movie Factory, no problem.

So why could DVDMF do it and not TMPG DVD Author, just curious to know the answer please.

    Hi PhilipBennett,

    This...

"Max. frames in GOP - 15 (for PAL) or 18 (for NTSC)

These are the standard DVD limits. This option is not present in older versions of TMPGEnc. If you're using one of those versions, you will need to control the number of frames using only the three previous settings. If a GOP has more frames than the standard allows, authoring programs will usually reject the file, and some players will not be able to play it."

...is taken from the following guide on the settings for DVD compliant MPEG2 using the encoder TMPGEnc.

    Guide: http://dvd-hq.info/Compression.html

I've never needed to amend the number of frames in a GOP (post encoding) so can't comment how to go about it. But I hope it points you in the right direction.

    Good luck...

That's one thing that always puzzled me. TMPG Mpeg encoder, TMPG DVD Author, why not combine the two?

I don't suppose that you could tell us what your true GOP structure is? I've heard of some authoring programs that balk when NTSC GOPs are at the max (18). Most commercial DVDs have a GOP size of 12 (IBBPBBPBBPBB). It's a good idea not to go much over 12.

BitRate Viewer (full version) can tell you this info.
