  1. If there a DVD player software that will let me view movie frame by frame until I get a desired shot and then capture it? The only way I found was to rip the DVD, convert them to AVI and use VirtualDub to find and capture an image.

    Thanks for the help.

I don't know about frame by frame, but with PowerDVD you can slow it to 4-6 frames per second and capture with that...

PowerDVD and WinDVD have a snapshot function (it captures the current frame to a file or the clipboard).

I'm sure many other software DVD players also have this feature.

Or you could simply play your DVD on the PC and pause at the frame you want to capture and then press the 'Print Screen' key to capture the screen to the clipboard. Then paste it into your favourite paint program.

A better idea would be to it pause in PowerDVD and use the 'next frame' key to find where you want and then use the capture/camera function.

  5. Thanks. I guess I'll have to pony up and get a copy of PowerDVD. All the DVD softwares I have were the free versions that comes with the DVD I watch or with DVD-ROM. None of them have a frame by frame play and using play and pause to try and hit the certain scene is too much guesswork.

    Thanks.

If you don't want to buy it, you might try hitting PrintScreen, then pasting the saved image (from your clipboard) to your favorite image editor (MS Paint, PhotoImpact, Photoshop, etc.).

  7. Printscreen won't work as the video is in overlay and inaccessable to print screen. Rip with DVD decrypotor, load the vob in virtualdubmod,
then click video>copy source frame to clipboard, or snapshot current frame, etc.

    Thanks.
If you have never previously installed PowerDVD there is a downloadable fully functioning trial version available. If this is a one off type requirement that should do the job for free

  9. when did they start putting up a fully functional trial? only one I could find (about a month ago) was severly crippled. black and white picture, could only play a few minutes of audio and video, no access to any other functions really. maybe they realized how lowsy of a trial that is.
