Hi, I hope I've done right, I'm totaly new here and absolutely lost. This post is also in the "Newbie" section, but no-one appears willing (or able) to help me:
I have spent the best part of two days (no joke, no lie ) trying to change a 3xCD film which is "RIFF/CDXA mpg1" - whatever that means, I have now found out - into a DVD. Easy? No way!
Using Nero 6 I tried simply copying the first CD to make a VCD - my DVD player wouldn't even recognise it as a disc!
So I tried to make a SVCD - Nero gaily took 2 hours converting MPG to SVCD format and then told me the file was too big for the discs I had - 730MB Infiniti - by a looong way. It then did not save the 2-hour project for me to have another go later on!
Is there a way to go straight through from the above MPG file to DVD-format using one program? AND/or making a 3 disc MPG Movie set into ONE DVD - which was my original intention at 9.00am yesterday *ing morning - pardon my cursor!
I have used TMPGenc to convert the mpg1 to mpg2 (PAL DVD); 4.3 Aspect ratio; "full screen (keep aspect ratio) it took 2 hours - and I did it twice, 4 hours in total!!
It has SPLIT a 684MB file into a 3.30GB file movie clip and a 744MB wave sound file both of which which can be now played by "Power DVD"
BUT: when I attempted to see if my PC would put them together and make a DVD copy Nero tells me that "there are no compatible files found".
The movie file itself is now M2V?? and when asked about its mPeg info it says it is not a valid mpeg file?
What have I got to do to make a DVD from these 2 files, please - or even the original one?
TMPGenc has in its bottom window the following: "DVD PAL (MPEG-2 720x576 25fps CBR 6974kbps, Linear PCM 48000Hz 1536kbps)" I live in the UK and want to produce a PAL formatted disc.
I have tried to "Author" them back together, but keep getting "Track error" .
Surely someone knows what settings I should have - life has to be easier than this? You can see by the technobabble I have used that I have spent a lot of time here - but still with no answers
WILL SOMEONE HELP, PLEEEEASE!!

On the offhance your sound file and both .m2v files are DVD compatible, load IfoEdit, select DVD Author-->Author new DVD. Put the m2v files in the section, and the audio in the audio section. Select the output folder and OK. The new files should then be put in a VIDEO_TS folder and burned in Nero.
Hello. -
Why cant you d/l it?Its hard to help if you have problems getting the programs.

Here is the notice I'm getting, and I've tried to dl from Doom etc but no-one seems to have the prog actually on their site:
"No File Leeching Allowed
Your browser or download manager/accelerator does not support "referrer_document", a necessary feature to download files from this site.
You cannot use bookmarks to download from this site."
I hope this helps -
That error occurs if you have a download manager or nortons firewall which blocks scripting causing the site to think you are d/l from somewhere else, try shutting down any of these programs if you have them running before you try downloading again.

Thank you - have now got prog and will give this a go. Thanks for the good advice - scared to deathnof viruses here. But even worse at making DVD-compatable files, it seems. Cheers - and keep coming with the help!

RIFF, Resource Interchange File Format. RIFF is a device control interface and common file format native to the Microsoft Windows system. It is used to store audio, video, and graphics information used in multimedia applications.
CD-ROM XA (for eXtended Architecture) discs contain Mode 2 sectors and were designed to allow audio and other data to be interleaved and read simultaneously.

If you just want to rip those VCDs and create MPEG files then here is a simple 1 step guide for converting VCD to MPEG and is very easy to follow. Using this program there is no loss of quality or reencoding. Just a simple rip and convert.
Follow the guide, download the small program and install it. On first run it will ask to regester, click 'remind me later' to ignore. Find the .dat file, right click, choose the command, make the extention .mpg and rip. Easy.
Good luck. -
Thanks, M8, I'll give that a try in the morrow (when I've woken up) here's a question to finish this off - I hope - is there a particular way to save the files to a VIDEO_TS folder?
What I mean is - IfoEdit has done it - thanks again - but now how do I go about putting the 6/7 files it's made into a folder like you suggested.
I ask this for a simple reason: when I go over them they are about .99GB in size, but when cut and pasted to Nero the whole lot comes to less than 4GB - is this right? Can I just take the lot and slide them into Nero and now burn a DVD? I have made so many beer mats lately I don't want any more, lol -
Hi, Tommyknocker DVD made
the sound and movie are a little jumpy/jerky but at least it's made!!
Thanks for all the help Ifoedit did it all - turning both audio and video split files into a format the DVD writer could use.
Do you think it would also convert an MPG Movie + sound file the same way? This would enable me (and others) to go straight from downloading a CDR-type movie to conversion to burning in very quick time and in very EASY steps (that's what we're after, no?). Thanks again for your patience and persistance. If you think of anything else post away
