I have been using cloneDVD to back up my DVD's.
In the audio section this particular time there are two audio streams ticked by default. English Dolby AC-3/6 and English DTS/6.
My question: Is there any sense to keep them both if you have no menu structure left to select a sound type with your dvd player?
Should you keep the menu's just for this?
Which is the more common audio type?
I am finding out that keeping the menu structure intact while leaving out extras is tricky and will take time to learn.

On most DVD players you should be able to select secondary audio tracks by using the menu on the DVD player. I have backed up a movie without menus and was able to select an alternate audio track (DTS) using the menus built into the DVD player.

DVD players usually have an "audio" button to cycle thru the available audio streams. DTS on the average movie is 800MB's, that's nearly 20% of a DVD-R's capacity. Video quality is bound to suffer. I would suggest never keeping more than one audio stream. For an average 2 hour movie:
DTS=800MB's
AC3-448bit=400Mb's
AC3-192bit=180MB's -
What is the preferred or more universal audio format to leave in the backup disc?

You're kidding, right? "Tricky"? "Will take time to learn"? One of the great things about CloneDVD is that it allows you to do exactly this with a simple mouse click. You simply check the box that says "Retain menus" (or words to that effect) and go! You get your main movie, with selected soundtrack(s) and menus. What is tricky about that?Originally Posted by mb571

Do I look like a kidder?
You can preserve menus, but what happens when the menu item points to a title (like an extra) that you did not include. The screen goes white.
While backing up an episode disc the other night, the quality fell from 80% to 56% if you ticked "Preserve Menus". Therefore one would want to preserve only part of the menus, the ones that selected which of the ten episodes to play. I understand this is what ifo editing is for.
