I just wanted to rant about how bad khypermedia is. I bought a stack of 25 disks. These were the first stack of dvd disks i've ever bought. Out of the stack of 25, only 4 disks actually burned at 1x. They were marked as 4x, but I could never burn any at 4x. I could only burn at 1x. I had to go through the entire stack to actually find 4 that would work.
Don't ever ever ever buy these disks. They suck so bad, they put hookers to shame.
That is all. Please go about your business.

wow that is bad, thanks for the info, I will stay away from those.
-
then again, for a competing argument...
I picked up 4 $5 5-packs of Khypermedia DVD-R, out of 20 I've had one bad burn, all the rest were fine and burned at 2x. (these were not advertised as 4x discs).
maybe you got a bad batch? maybe your burner is picky about media?- housepig

Then again, for a counter, counter argument. I have some 1x Khypermedia discs which burn perfectly at 1x in my Sony DRU500A and my Pioneer 106, but play back like #$@%^&@ in all 3 of my settop players. Total garbage, right from the beginning of the movie, not just at the end.

I concur. KHypermedia = CMC = crap.

They are not my first choice, but I have picked up four 10 packs free (mail-in-rebate) and have not had any problems. To each his own.

yeah, KHypermedia is crap. I bought a 10 pack of dvd+rw from microcenter a while back. I could burn them but I could not play them in any of my standalone player.
-
i got some free with rebate and half of the +r dvds were krunk. stay very far away

They work very well as coasters for my drinks and my wife paint's them and uses them as holiday Ornaments.

I would still put LONGTEN media up against Khypermedia as being the absolute worst. ALL samples of that particular media are now completely unplayable on all three of my settops, as well as my computer.

burned over 100 (25pk spindles) -r and only 1 bad burn. always burn at 1x even though they can go 2x. also good luck with compusa cheapies (1x), 35+ and no coasters. Of course i dont fill em up, keep it at or under 4.2gb. paying 30 cents or less per dvd i can afford a couple of coasters now and then. set-top compatibility has been great...samsung,sony,apex, and an old pioneer.

I bought a 25 pack and almost half of them gave errors. I contacted Khypermedia and I just had to send them the bad discs and they replaced them. I haven't tried the replacements yet to see if they're ok though.

I bought 3 10 packs of 4x DVD+R had only 2 bad ones, which is not unusal, have had a bad one from GQ, Verbatuims and even a TDK before, even though I think the TDK's are the best and at $119 for a 100 pack at best Buy and 4x to boot a great deal.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, besides ordering from Rima or someone, where are you supposed to buy Japanese DVDs?
I was at my local CompUSA last night to buy a few +RWs, and look as I might, of the 30-40 brands, package sizes on the shelves, maybe, just maybe 4 were marked made In Japan. 3/4 were made in Taiwan, some, Singapore, a couple, Germany, I think.
Nine out of ten were not Japanese made. I didn't get a Japanese package, as I didn't wish to pay 5 bucks each.
If I ever get the Khypers I have a rain check for, I'll check mfg. If they work for me, I won't care, unless they're unreadable down the line.
5 bucks for 25, 20 cents apiece, I'll live with them if I get 50 % good ones, 40 cents apiece..
Cheers,

It's a real pain in the ass when you have to sit at your computer and make sure the burn doesn't error out, switch disks, and then pray again that it will burn to completion. -
in all fairness to the khypermedia, all of mine (approx 100) have burned just fine at 1x. Whoops actually take that back, a 25 pack that I bought had a large number of bad burns. My only complaint is office max and their rebates. I got screwed AGAIN on the black friday 10 pack. Basically, both required originals. This time I sent the original to Kypermedia and the other one to office max and they STILL denied my rebate. I'll never learn....
On the longten's, a friend bought a 100 pack for me to back up his home movies and they all went fine. Course that was only 4 months ago, but all is still well at this point. -

He can consider himself very lucky, if they don't at least have playback freezes. Most burn fine at 1x. But then the playback issues begin, eventually leading to totally unplayable disks. Even the one I burned to 3.8 Gigs that didn't have any problems, ended up unplayable. Apparently the dye they use is very unstable. -

Walmart has Maxell 2x -R Japanese disks. 10 for $19.97, which is not a great price compared to the online prices, but not bad for something available locally. You can also get Fuji 10 packs of 4x -R Taiyo Yudens at Best Buy, but I have yet to see the darn things on sale. They are about $25 for 10.
Have yet to see any, and I mean ANY Japanese +R disks available locally.
