question about making a copy of a backup ps2 game...

okay, as i previously mentioned here, i backed up some ps2 games but mostly all of them turned out to not boot up well with my ps2 (i have an old ps2 and burned them with tdk-r). well, i just bought some fuji+r's (2.4x) and burned a couple games and so far, they work great. so my conclusion was that it was the media i used and (as i've heard) fuji's work great with ps2s.

so my question is, if i try to make a copy from the other backups that didn't boot up and burn it on the fuji's, will it work. i don't want to end up wasting a dvd since i'm running out of them. just wondering if there's any info that would make me think it won't work....thanks

If the TDK's are backups, why not get your originals and create Fuji backups from them?

What do you mean, correc tme if im wrong, if youve sold, returned, given away, damaged to the point of unusable, to the otiginal, then legally you have to destroy the backup.

Then what is the point of "backing up"??? The main reason that I backup my movies, games, etc... is for the sole purpose that is something happens to my original copy, then I will have the backup copy. I'm not promoting for someone to sell all of your games once you have a backup, but if I damage my original to the point of it being unusable...........i'm not going to destroy my backup.

I believe the point of making a backup is to use the backup so you don't destroy the origional to the point of being unuseable so if the backup gets destroyed, then you can make another backup...in a perfect world of course...however to answer your question, if it is in fact the medium that your PS2 didn't like rather than the encoding/backing up process then you should be ok by backing up the backup on a differnt brand of disk. However if there was an error in the backing up process then of course you will end up with 2 coasters for the price of one.

well, to further elaborate. that will only be a problem with a couple games that i don't have the original. one game i let a friend borrow. another one of mine got scratched up and the sound and stuff gets distorted, so i rented another copy to back it up. i'll guess i'll try and, and post what happens here

Weird it reads +r games. 99% of the ps2 people I talk with say use only -r for games. You must have left out a detail, perhaps you have the new PS2 version??

Pick media that works with your writer & write at 1x to start. Also, you might have to try several times to boot a game, try ten times.

no, i bought my ps2 when it first came out. i backed up 5-6 games a couple of them multiple times, all with the same media, all ending up with the same result, not playable. now i know it's FOR SURE the media. i backed up a dvd movie with the fuji one, and it played on my ps2. my previous movies that i backed up with khypermedia/tdk's played in my jvc dvd player but my ps2 couldn't read them. i guess i'm only buying fuji's from now on

well, i did it, and still the same result, it doesn't boot up. maybe i'll try to rent the game and see what happens

I stopped reading after this post. I'm sorry, but how careless do you have to be to have all of your originals not working? In all my years of gaming I've had hundreds of original CD based games (all the way back to the Sega CD). Do you know how many I've ever damaged beyond playability? Hell, even damaged to the point that is has minor problems booting up? NONE. Thank God I've had the foresight to take such good care of my games since I've never moded a system (hence could never play backups). I suspect something else is going on here.

unless i totally did not read something, do you not have to have your ps2 chipped in order to play dvd-r backups (games not movies), if you dont have a chip or 'swap disc" then you cannot play backups in it

Just for clarification, you need to have your PS2 (and 1) chiped or modded in some fashion (unless you want to do the swap disk trick) to play backup games. You do not have to have your PS2 (or 1) modded, chipped,etc to play backup movies.

Normally, I would agree with you 100% However, after seeing what a 2 year old and a bitchy cat can do to a friends CD collection, I can see the need for backing stuff up. However,

Why doesn't that suprise me? If you can't produce YOUR original PURCHASED copies to create fresh backups, then you're probably pirating the game and should be shot.
