  1. Just got a new Amoisonic 2000MK2 video disk recorder and
the first tests look good. It really needs a steady input
signal because any interruptions will ruin the encoded video. S-video input makes a big difference - I wouldn't want to encode without it. VCD quality looks as good as could be expected. Will be testing SVCD quality next.

  2. Would you please keep me posted as to how well the machine works? We are looking to transfer
both 3/4" and 1/2" tapes to cds. I'm interested in the quality of the video transfered to the cd.
These are medical tapes and we need to get fairly good quality. Thanks!

  3. Egads, I disagree. I bought one last week, and after one day of testing, I got rid of it. *extreme* blockiness in VCD format recording from laserdisc. SVCD a bit better, but MPEG artifacting still noticable.

On the plus side, all the features worked as advertised, and there were no audio/video sync problems.

I just found the quality to be sub-par.

  5. Just did 30 mins of SVCD from a new VHS tape and the quality is excellent. Not quite equal to DVD but fairly
close. My cheapo Raite DVD player plays it just fine too.
One thing I learned right away - poor quality source tapes may be unusable. Recordings where the soundtrack jumps from hifi stereo to mono are unusable as they scramble the encoding. Home made videos of uncertain quality may give trouble. But a decent commercial tape played in a good VHS deck records just fine. I have a pro quality JVC 811 deck feeding into the Amoisonic and the quality pays off. One solution is to copy the original source tape to a SVHS copy with the soundtrack mono all the way thru. Then this copy could probably be used with the Amoisonic.
