I want to take already decoded vob files and convert them to quicktime. There are plugins that you can get to create screensavers in X but the format must be quicktime. I want to take some clips from movies and convert them to quicktime to accomplish this. I have search to forums but could not find anything.

The tools I already have are:
    QuickTime Pro 6.4
    MPEG2 Works
    DVD2ONE
    DVDBackup

you will have to do a little work to get .vob's to be recognized by quicktime.

however, at this present time, mpeg2 decoder isnt working in quicktime so using quicktime is not an option at the moment.

if it were you would simply need to demux the .vob, convert audio into a format quicktime can handle (im blanking at the moment if quicktime can play .ac3 - i believe it can) remux them into an mpeg file which you can open with quicktime when the decoder is fixed.

then its just save as self contained and you have it in a .mov.

    Thanks, galactica
but since it's for a screensaver I don't even need the audio. If the mpeg2 converter starts working again in quicktime can I just open the vob and then export as a mov file? Thanks again, Wayne.

well... i believe if you do that the audio will come along

you would need to demux the .vob into a .m2v (mpeg2 with no audio) which you could then open with quicktime when the decoder works!

ffmpegx can do the demuxing for you under TOOLS. it only takes a second or so
