  1. IS IT POSIBLE TO MAKE CAPTURE IN VOB.

OR WHATS THE BEST WAY TO CONVERT MPEG-2 TO VOB.

Negative. Thats a novel concept but you cannot capture straight to VOB. Your VOBs will be made in the authoring stage after you have programmed whatever interactivity you choose and hit Compile, or a corresponding function, respectively.

  4. Well, I guess, technically you "could" capture straight to VOB if you are using a stand alone DVD recorder.

I think the term "capturing" infers the use of a capture card or device, rather than a standalone recorder.

maybe the original poster should be a bit more specific...

Hate to shock some of you.

There is at least one app that will do just that and more.

It's called NEODVD. Just choose the "Create a DVD or svcd option" and then use the "wizard". It let's you choose the input from a file or from your capture card then guides you through step by step (8 simple ones in all) in the setup. It offers 3 quality settings depending on how much time you want to put on 1 DVD. It has some basic menu options, backgrounds and you can even add chapter points. The program then captures the video to vob, creates the ifo structure all within an instant of a completed capture. Not too shabby.

I am just testing some of its features now so have not explored all of its capabilities. All my tests with simple menus etc.. are fully functionnal on the pc using windvd5 and PowerDVD5 and on my Apex AD-700 (using DVD+ and - RW).
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  8. Can you point me to a download link for NEODVD?

It says Trialware in the tools section, but clicking the download link takes me to the MEDIOSTREAM site and info pagefor NEODVD. I cannot find a download link though, just a buy now link?

I noticed this on some other software site also that was listed as trialware!
Is it only trialware if you got it bundled with hardware for some of these programs? Don't sound right to me!

  9. U can also try the TMPGEnc DVD Author, they claims u can author ur mpeg2 and dont re-encode to VOB.

I author 1 hr of mpeg2 and then clic in "create folder", then TMPGEnc DVD takes about 7-8 minutes to create VIDEO_TS folder, i think these 7-8 min are used to "normalize" or so the mpeg2 files as long as convert it in VOB.

Anyway NeoDVD seems to be the best way to go... i need to test it.

    chano8:

I got my copy of NEODVD in 1 of 2 special promotional software bundles when I bought my DVD writer and video capture card.

NeoDVD is a bit different than Sonic's MYdvd because it immediately creates the DVD structure as you capture. You can see this by checking and refreshing your capture directory, you will notice the vob filesize increase during the capture. Sonic's MYDVD seems to generate the files once the capture is done. The editing module was not included in my copy of NEODVD but I noticed that it is still in developmet scheduled for Sept 2003 release. There are many similarities between the 2 apps but Sonic's MYDVD does allow you to edit certain features of your DVD production once it's completed.

The answer to your question is that NEODVD is the only app I know that does capture in mpeg2 format directly to the vob container in realtime. However, as you can see there are other tools that can do it almost as seamlessly.

  13. I know Smurf, my english sux...

Im talking about TMPEG DVD Author, they claims u can make ur VIDEO_TS content folder without re-encode ur captured mpeg2, in my case i author 1 hr mpeg2 footage in these app(with my captured mpeg2 files in Winfast2k), when i start the process the app just take about 7-8 minutes to create the VIDEO_TS folder, then burn it in my dvd-r.

So this means to me, TMPEG DVD Author "convert" mpeg2 in just 7-8 minutes; a diferent history as the Studio 8, takign ur mpeg2 for author, and re-encode (long time) to make DVD content.

I hope this can clarify the sense of my last post...

  14. Yes Tmpgenc DVD author is very fast at what it does, for me on my system anyway. I start with the mpeg2 file and ready to burn a in a few minutes. I never really tried just mpeg2 straight to DVD without doing somethng extra along the way though. I either cut stuff, make chapter points, add menus, or other stuff. I don't know how much EXTRA work I make for the progam with the editing, compared to just a direct mpeg2 to DVD job.

No, it says Payware. (...I just changed it.......the old version had a demo)

  16. OK, thanks Baldrick.
Geuss I need to look for an old version to try then

Thanks for changing it though, I know it's gotto to be hard to keep up with all the changes everywhere. It still said trialware when I had looked at it, thought maybe I just missed the link somehow. I noticed this on another program or two also. Forgot which ones though. Is this just a couple ramdom cases, or a new trend that the companies are starting to do away with the trials?

I (like many) have been burned on bad software for high prices too many times, I still BUY what I like and will use, but NEVER before I give it a good try.

Unfortunately for a good program $50-$70 isn't too high to buy, but it is too high to risk on unknown programs.
So, geuss I'll forget the NeoDVD unless they come out with a new trial again or I get a bundled version with a new burner later.

  17. I contacted them a couple of weeks ago, asking for a trial.

they told me that if I wasnt happy with the software, I could ask for a refund within 30 days.

I think I'm going to buy it myself this morning and see how it works out. If the quality is maintained, it's certainly worth the price if you have a backlog of work to do.

  18. I'll be asking for a refund.

It seems like it would be a great product, but it wont let me work with my miniDV camcorder as a capture device. It requires control the of the minidv and since I dont have a tape in there, it says as such.

I'm sure for most people, it's an amazing product though.

  19. Yep, neoDVD is what I normally use for capturing/author/burn DVD, it can capture straight to DVD or VIDEO_TS folder (with VOB, IFO ready to burn to DVD).
If you want a simple, no struggling way then neoDVD is the software.
