leadtek winfast tv 2000 xp + avi or xvid

hello all there!
i am trying to capture to divx or xvid.
first time i start everything goes ok, but at the second capture after 1 or 2 secs recorded vvcr makes an illegal operation, hangs... in the bundled leadtek software the same occurs, except wftv goes on but stops capturing after some seconds too.
mpeg1 and mpeg2 works fine.
anyone having ideas?
my specs:
intel cel p4 2.4
80GB 7200 samsung hd
leadtek winfast tv 2000 XP deluxe with latest drivers
win98SE updated

Its probably windows98, thats an old o/s, move on and get 2k (XP if you really have to), but as i dont use 98 im just guessing.
