NEC 1300A BEST FIRMWARE?

I have a nec 1300a coming in the mail to me and want to know from people who have this burner what is the best firmware.

looking to use these brands of media

fuji dvd-r/rw
ritek dvd-r/rw
princo dvd-r/rw


is firmware 1.07v3 or 1.08 better?

finally i have a dvd burner!!!!!!!!!!!

Zero problems with Ritek G04's on mine.

Why do you want to flash the firmware on a new drive? I'm curious? It's not like your trying to burn 1x Princo's at 2x??? Generally speaking you try flashing when you have a problem, or use brand new media the drive can't identify.

Thanks, if my riteks have no probs then I wont flash. I just want to have some plans in place.

Im just happy to be moving to dvd burns, Im tired and bored w/ vcd & svcd.

Herrie's firmware hacks have helped me out quite a bit.

i talked to Herrie, who told me that 1.08 is best for Princo discs. I know they arent good, but theyre the only ones sold in my town, except Verbatim which costs a fortune a piece.

My experience with Princo is that if you burn them @ 2x they work fine. 4x is screwed.

Anyway, noone has answered the guys question: Which firmware is best for those media?

The one it comes with unless you can't burn your new or cheap disks :P

Princo burns fine at 4x with fw 1.08 on my drive. Fw 1.07 did'nt.

And what about princos shelf life? i dont want to buy discs because they are cheaper and then have them not work 6 months down the road.

anybody have info ( link?) about shelf life of different brand DVD-r/rw?
