  1. Hi,

What's the best software to copy a DVD video? I've tried DVD X Copy Platinum but I've burned two different DVDs with different make DVDs and at points during the film it jerks and stops. Is there any better software than this that does a similar thing? Also, it would be appreciated if anyone knows any software that can do this in Linux because I'm primarily a Linux user.

    Cheers

  2. Hi,

Have you tried DVD Shrink (www.dvdshrink.org) its' FREEWARE , really easy to use and can compress a whole movie or you can remove things u like e.g. Extra features, subtitlies etc. Or you can just remove everything (apart from the main movie and audio channel of course ) and then your just left with a nice, high quality movie.

    Cheers

This might not be the best way but it is the way I do it.

I used DVDDecrypter to make a backup image of the DVD to my hard drive. Mount the Image using Daemon Tools then run DVDShrink over it. I then burn it or use Classic Image Tool to make an image file for easy burning or it can be moutned and played using Daemon tools.

This does require a decent amount of Hard Drive Space. doom9.org has some really good guides on DVDShrink.

  4. While your working on finding what works best for you and go with it, make it region free. A standalone player may thank you for it with good playback.

  5. DVD Shrink is the shiznit. By far the best ripper out there. For burning definatly go with NERO And yea DVD X COPY does in fact blow. Its a program created for people who are willing to compromise quality burns for slightly less thinking (also adds a FBI warning in the begining if I am not mistaken).

Hats off to DVD Shrink developers, but I stand by my Pinnacle InstantCopy 7. Perfect quality. Never had a single hickup. Swallows anything and spits out best copies I've seen so far. Simply indispensible.
Learn how to use it and you'll fall in love with it.

Count me in for InstantCopy 8 (worth the upgrade from 7). At only $35 it's a steal. The best squeezed video quality out there.... period.

  8. I've used DVDXCopy with few problems. The one I am enjoying the most right now is InterVideoDVDCopy Platinum. It gives you the ability to split to 2 DVD's or compress to one. It also lets you preview and eliminate content you may not want. Furthermore, you can go from DVD to DVD, DVD to SVCD, DVD to VCD and DVD-Divx. It will even let you copy two or more DVD's to a single DVD using the MDVD function (although the compression would have to be enormous). It is very fast and did a better job compressing to a single DVD than did CloneDVD. It must be used in conjuction with a ripper like DVD Decryptor so this adds a bit of time to the entire process but I find the program very easy to use and it gives great results!
