  1. Hi everyone,

I live in Liege (little town in East Belgium, Europe) and I haven't been able to
find a proper DVD-R disk for 2 weeks.

I used to buy verbatim datalifeplus, TDK or Maxell DVD-R disks from various
shops. Now, you can no longer find them. I searched the whole town.
The only DVD-R disks that are still available are the Imation ones or
low cost ones with less known brand names.

You can still find DVD+R from good well known brands anywhere though.
Only the DVD-R (and DVD-RW) disks have dissapeared from the shelves.

Do you experience a similar shortage where you live ? Is it a sign that
the "+" format is taking over ?

I seriously doubt it, -R are still being carried at all of the retail stores in my area. But I order online anyway. It may be that they are selling out of the -R alot faster than the +R.

I think it's a sign that most people in your town own -R burners. That's why they are out of stock, people are buying them. If everyone owned +R burners then you would have plenty of -R media available.

  5. I posted a comment about -R's being discontinued and then found your post. Maybe there is something in the rumour?

    Go to http://shop.cdfreaks.com/
This is a Belgium company, I buy my DVD-R from them
although I live in the Netherlands.

  7. I've just had a look at shop.cdfreaks.com. It looks like they only
sell low cost unbranded or Princo DVD-Rs.

Just what I wanted to avoid.

cdfreaks is one of the few places where you can get MAM-E (Mitsui Advanced Media) DVD. This is really good stuff. Check the web for it.
