  1. This has probabbly been asked many times, oh well. I understand that when burning VCDs, SVCD, and cDVDs/MiniDVDs a 650mb and 700mb will hold more then 650 or 700mb of Data.

I'd like to know -why- this is, I doubt it is the work of Pixies... but then agian, you never know.

When burning a disk as a VCD/SVCD/MiniDVD, what is the actual maxium amount of data a 650mb and a 700mb CD disk. I'd like to know this so I can be a little more accurate on the space I have for menus while using DVD-Lab.

Simple, burn the video CD as an image file with no error checking files. I put 825MB on a 700MB CD as a SVCD all the time. I belive this is also called 'Mode 2'. You can also 'Overburn', but using image files, this isn't needed. Not sure what the max is, I let the software (DVD2SVCD) figure that out.

  3. they use two slightly different formats when burning to the disc. Data uses mode1 which alllows 2048 bytes of data per sector while svcd vcd use mode2 which allows 2324 bytes per sector. The difference is that a data CD "wastes" the extra bytes on error correction. If you think about it, if one byte is wrong in a program then the whole program is corrupt, whereas if one pixel on the screen is the wrong colour for 1/25th of a second it is immaterial. You may think im joking but IBM IS working with pixie dust to enhance the storage capacity of their hard drives.
