  1. When i try and burn a svcd with nero6 i get a "There is not enough space to burn this compilation onto this disc." the processing screen shows the size of the svcd to be burned as 649MB / 79:00.51, im burning onto 80min cds and overburn is enabled to 82min. I'm not converting files or anything just draggin and dropping them and letting nero do the converting, in theroy it should be making them fit to the 80 min. The exact same videos are burning fine as vcds although with the worse quality.
    It's anoying because it doesn't tell me there isn't enough space untill after it has spend hours converting them.

    Well, dont! Use the correct tools for each step in the process of creating a SVCD from ???
    These usually are (VirtualDub -> ) TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy ( -> Nero).
    • VirtualDub to edit AVI
      TMPGEnc to encode
      VCDEasy to author
      Nero to burn
    This approach will save you a lot of "Why wont...?"s, "How come...?"s and more in that direction. To boot, you can discover early on if something's wrong.

  3. Upgrade to the latest version of Nero. There is a bug in some version of Nero 6 that flakes out on SVCDs. A friend had the same problem and he upgraded to 6.whatever.19; problem solved.

  4. I agree with Mats - use Nero to burn, but never to convert.

    The tools Mats recommended do a much better job than Nero in my opinion (and that of many others here).

    If you're going for SVCD, you may want to try DVD2SVCD, which does more than its name suggests, and is very easy to use. You'll need a copy of TMPGEnc Plus (or Cinema Craft Encoder) as well - the trial version of TMPGEnc will work until the month-long MPEG-2 encoding trial expires.

    So, you'd have plenty of time to try it out and see if you like it.

    There are lots of guides on how to use all of these tools on this site.

    cheers,
