Thread: Downsampling .mp2 and Muxing Confusion??

    I've Demuxed a 251mb MPEG-1 file into 2 files:

    207mb .m1v
    40mb .mp2

I convert the .mp2 to a .wav, re-encode it from 224kbps to 128kbps with tooLAME and get a 23mb .mp2 file. I Multiplex it back with the .m1v file using both TMPGEMC and BBMPG, but the filesize stays 251mb?? Why hasn't the filesize been reduced? Please could someone explain!

I'm trying to fit 3 files on one VCD and make a menu in Nero, but at 251mb each file they are just too big for an 80min CD! I thought downsampling the sound would make the resulting MPEG-1 file smaller? Please excuse my ignorance if this assumption is wrong, it seemed a good idea at the time!

You can fit 3x 251MB on a VCD, but it is strange anyway. Did you select the correct stream type (VCD) while remuxing?

Yep! In BBMPG I selected the VCD option in the Program Stream Settings, there is no option for this in TMPGENC's MPEG Tools though!

    Update:
Well, I burned the 3 files with Nero with no problems! Forgot about differing sector sizes between VCD and CD-ROM, so 755mb CAN fit on an 80min CD!! DOH!!
