  1. I'm getting significant click & pop sounds in captures that I'm doing from VHS tapes. They seem to be related to tracking issues between the tape & vcr, as I can sometimes eliminate them by manually adjusting the tracking while capturing. If I play the same tape in the same vcr into a TV, I can also hear the noises, so they don't seem to be resulting from the capture process.

I've used Cooledit & Roxio SpinDoctor to eliminate such noises from LPs that I've digitized & put onto cdroms with good results. Is there a similar tool that I could use with a captured AVI file? Or do I need to split out the audio stream somehow, do the noise reduction, then add it back in to the video?

Any suggestions or comments from related experience would be appreciated.....

    Thanks,
    Steve.

Yes, you may want to give Gold Wave a shot.

  3. Thanks, but it looks like an audio editor, which would require that I first save the audio stream out from the AVI. I guess I was looking for a tool that would load the AVI & do click & pop removal on the audio. If no such thing exists, and I need to split out the audio from the AVI first, I would probably just use Cooledit or SpinDoctor, which I already own. Or am I missing something about Goldwave?

Yes, open your video into Gold Wave. Select Effects-->Pop/Click, then okay. Save the file as a wave file. Open the video in Virtual Dub mod, Select Audio-->Wave Audio, and your new wave file. Select Video
-->Compression-->"Your codec" and save it as your new AVI file. But you probably already knew this, right?

  5. Of course, I DIDN'T know that! I'm really new at this, and because I'm old, I'm a little slow on the uptake.

Thanks for the direction; something for me to go look into.
