  1. I have just recorded some video from my home video digital recorder. When i load it up in virtual dub it says that the file is not supported because of microsft.

    also in tmpgenc, it says that it cannot handle the video.

    what can i use to convert this file into a format that virtual dub or tmpgenc can use?

    You need Vdub 1.3c I believe. After that, .asf support was discontinued.

    It only works for older ASF's. Don't bother with Version 8 or 9 codecs (the new ones). Try a tool called ASF2AVI. In unpacks an ASF and converts it to AVI, then you can proced from there (doesn't change the codec, jsut the container). It doesn't work on WMV/ASF that have Digital Rights tagged.
