  1. Hi,
I capture streams into ASF files and they play fine using windows media player.
But when I try to convert them using SUPER, NERO, windows video maker or windows encoder, I get video /audio sync problems. Even when I try to upload the ASF file to youtube, the video get converted but there is an audio sync issue.
Sometimes when I use windows encoder and select CBR audio, I don't get the audio sync issue but the audio is not great and with some distortion.
What do I need to do to convert the ASF files to another format without the audio /video sync issue?
I tried many free and non-free converters (NERO) without sucess.
Let me know what I need to do.
    Thanks

Try run through the asf files using asfbin or steeper. And try convert using avidemux.

  4. Hi Baldrick,
I use asfbin to cut the asf file into segments. Is there anything I should do to fix the sync there? Again, the segments when played using windows media player, have no sync issues what so ever.
As for avidemux, I tried to use it (followed the great guide you posted) but the files that get saved either has sound issues or video issues.

Midzuki, thanks for the link. But will this work for videos or only audio?

Is there something that I should look for? The thing that is driving me crazy is that the sync issue is not consistent.

The Winamp workaround will work only onto the audio stream ---
--- that's the reason why you should deal with an audio-only ASF file (read: .wma).

The sync problems you're having are caused by the Variable-SampleRate
behavior of the Windows Media Audio format. I use the Disk Writer plugin for
getting a normal stereo .WAV, which is then reencoded as mp2, ac3, etc.,
and finally muxed with the re-encoded video stream. So far, the trick has
    always worked fine over here.

  6. Thanks Miduzki. I tried to extract the audio only and convert it into another formate. Now the problem is that the audio has a lot of pops and noise. I can't seem to normalize the sound and get rid of the pops and scratch noise. Is there a simple software to do this?
