my pc's CPU FAN, that is.
It make these, rua, rua, ruuuuua noise.
Like, when closely observed, it will catch up
to spead and be quiet, then it will slow down
as if it was being slows by touching the fan
(in the center), then catch up to speed and be
quiet again, and so on. After a while, it'll
settle down and catch up to speed and stay that
way, nice and quiet, till 10 hours or more later
and start acting up again. This has be going
on for a good month or so. I just ben ignoring it
but it's now starting to bother me.

I've cleaned the fan and the grill (heat sink) in
between the fins and all, but it still continiues
randomly making noise. Oh, and I can't seem to
take off the cpu. I listed up the stick as you're
suppose to, but it just wont come out. Maybe some
    dingdong actaully glued it on?

Anybody have any recommendations to stop the noise?
and maybe even show me how to take cpu out to have
    a better inspection of it?

My PC store (where I bought it) wants $45 (to start!)
    ...No way!

    Thank you all!

Oops, forgot to jot my specs:

    * bought around March/April of this year.
    * Bios is dated 1/2001 (never ben flashed)
    * MSI mb w/AMD 900mhz cpu
    * Heat sink is that one that looks like a rocket engineered
desinged one - ok, it's cylinder shaped and silver.

This is a mb I put together from a reputable pc store near
my area. Ok, I also noticed how HOT that little orange
scare gets, the one that has the MSI logo on it in white (i think)

Also, I noticed that at times, the fan can be spinning kind
of slow too... like almost real slow, but system is still stable.

As to my system's performance / operations, I have no trouble
that I'm aware of. It's just recently new.

  4. If your warranty is one year, that should be covered.

Sounds like you have one of those orb coolers.

I guess that's what you call it.
I remember when I have one of those square
ones for my Intel 233 chip. Same problem, but
only chiper fan ($9). I remember buying from
a cheaper store much farther away. Anyway, I
didn't trust this place, so I marked the fan. I
brought it back to them to have a look - cost me
$70 complete checkup, so he said. He said that
fan was running low on oil (get that!). Anyways,
He said he had to clean it out and whatever else,
and all was new again. Well, when I got the unit
back home, I had a closer look at my fan. was the
same fan (different sticker), but my fresh (engraved)
mark was nowhere to be found. This person didn't
fix my fan, he just replaced it and charged me $70
buks! ...for a $9 fan (which I bought).

As to warranty, its more like 30 days from purchse date.
Long gone since. The store usaully give 90 days warranty
on mb and parts and stuff, but all that is long gone now.
I know that fan is $20 everywhere.

  6. U got ripped and that sucks!! I've never heard of oiling a fan.

There are clips holding the fan down. U'll need some needle nose piers to unclip the heatsink. Or if there are screws on the fan, up can replace the fan only from the $20 fan. Or find a techno friend and he/she can do it for u.

Sounds like your system is on the floor. Set it on some old books so that it doesn't suck-in the xtra dirt and ruin the cpu fan and other fans.

oh, dam, you're good - spotting out that point about
my system being on the floor. I have on the floor,
but with a rug under it so it helps keep the noise down
from the downstairs people. Believe me, they here
that funny sound and have actually came up and
complained of a strange sound comming from up
above! Dam! I can't catch when the fan decides
to make these noise, since I usually have it up and
running all night for my encoding projects.

I didn't see any screws around the fan area. I did
release the lever or stick, but the fan feels like it's
just glued on. It's doesn't move at all. I don't
want to break the thing or damage any of the pins
on the cpu. I must be missing something, as this
thing should be able to come off.

What was this niddle nose thing you was talking about
and where do I jam thing in. I have nice long ones
    just for this purpose.
